What is a Modelling Portfolio?
About
Modelling Portfolios, Sydney Australia.
At its most basic it is a collection of photographs showing what you look like in various outfits and poses.
A basic modelling folio will have at least one head shot (a tight portrait), a full length photograph showing your height and body proportion and a mid shot showing you a bit more close up and in detail. In each of these shots you should be wearing a different outfit and the shot should say something a little bit different about you. A good portfolio will show off you versatility and what you are best suited to as a model. You will require good strong images, these should not be too arty but instead let you shine through.
Your folio is to show Photographers and Clients what you look like and what you can do in front of the camera.
The Looks,
A modelling portfolio should contain a head shot, a fashion shot, swimwear,
lingerie or tight fitting casual wear, an action or movement shot. An editorial
(magazine) style shot and possibly a catalogue shot. If possible it is
a good idea to have a mixture of studio and location (outdoor) shots in
your folio.
What sort of Photographer do you need?
The best photographer for shooting a modelling portfolio is one who understands
the fashion and modelling industry and how to photograph people well. If you
are new to modelling you definitely want a photographer who will make you feel
at ease in front of the camera allowing you bring out your best.
